I’m thrilled that Christine and Stephen (2023) by myself, Welcome to the Sixties (2017) by Cathy Lomax, and L’Irresistible (2022) by Sal Jones (depicting an exuberant Mandy Rice-Davies in the Sixties) are to become part of the De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) art collection.
Cathy’s beautiful painting was commissioned by myself and exhibited in the Arts Council England and Arts Council of Wales supported touring exhibition ‘Dear Christine’ from 2019–2020 and will also be showing again soon as part of ‘Scandal ‘63 Revisited’ at The Gallery at DMU in March (curated by myself and Professor of British Cinema at DMU, Steve Chibnall). Sal’s fantastic L’Irresistible has also been commissioned specially by myself for the DMU show.
One of the many reasons I started the ‘Dear Christine’ project was that I couldn’t understand why there weren’t more works of art based around Christine Keeler and her story. One of my aims was also to get works representing her into public art collections. With these works and forthcoming works included, there will now be five Christine Keeler paintings in public art collections.
