The Oscar Wilde House

De Profundis, one of four portraits I’ve painted of Oscar Wilde, is now above the fireplace in Oscar’s childhood nursery at the top of house where he grew up in Merrion Square, Dublin.

‘De Profundis’ is the title of a letter by Oscar Wilde, addressed to Lord Alfred Douglas, written between January and March 1897 whilst he was imprisoned in Reading Gaol. It translates as “from the depths”.
